The New Ranch Quad Posted by Picasa

We Be All American Pirates Yarg!  Posted by Picasa

Weekend of November 12th, 13th

Our goals for this weekend were extremely simple: purchase a quad, move more batteries over from Dog Ranch, and test those batteries. The first part went extremely smoothly. We purchased a sizable Arctic Cat 350cc ATV from a nice couple living on the outskirts of Fallen at a price well within our budget. While this took up our entire Sunday it also went very smoothly. We even had time to go to a drive-in for lunch. We also moved a half-dozen more batteries over to our place from Ron and Dahlia’s. The only problem is that out of the 12 batteries I have tested thus far two have been absolutely good, two have been possibly salvageable, and eight have been totally bad. Not a good average thus far.

We also replaced our now extremely tattered American and Nevadan flags with new ones: Old Glory and Blackbeard the pirate’s creepy “time to stab yer bleeding heart” flag. Flags don’t seem to last very long out at the Blackrock, where they are subjected to constant wind. I’ll probably have to replace our flags every few months when we finally move.

Weekend of October 30th, 31st

Alright: I’m not a very good carpenter. I just spent the last two entire days skirting the office building out at Midian; a task I thought would take an afternoon at the most. Having thus been educated (I believe that the current slang would be “schooled”), I now realize why they call carpentry a “trade,” as opposed to a “hobby.” Still, it is done (if done crudely), which is one less thing to worry about this winter. I would really, really like to have the time to finish putting our wood burning stove in place, but I think my next trip will be dedicated to finishing up the Dog Ranch/Midian Ranch deep cycle battery project. Ah, well: all in good time.
